DFD Joins 1% for Ojai

1% For Ojai - Partner

Screen Shot 2014-10-29 at 12.10.44 PMI am pleased to announce Dogs Fly Design has joined the 1% for Ojai program. A voluntary 1% donation will be added to your invoices to help protect Ojai’s views, trails, water, and wildlife. If you choose not to participate, please just let me know and I will gladly remove it from your bill.

We joined the 1% of Ojai program because it is an easy way for our business to play a much more active and larger role in protecting what I love about Ojai more than I could have done as an individual. The majority of my clients are Ojai based businesses and I hope they will be eager to participate as well.

To learn more about the 1% for Ojai program and how your business can participate, please visit Thank you for helping to protect what makes Ojai special.

This is a tax deductible donation and you may keep your invoices as proof of your donation to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.

WordCamp San Francisco 2014

WordCamp San Francisco 2014

WordCamp San Francisco 2014So the shirt may be a bit of an exaggeration, but WordCamp SF is something I have looked forward to for the last 4 years. What is a WordCamp? WordCamp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress, from design to development to content creation and more.

Although a lot of the talks I attended were rather technical, there was one about how to teach others how to use WordPress. I’m hoping to use this information in the future to create new tutorials to show you how to be more hands on with your website. Have any requests? Let me know in the comments.

Long Awaited Dropbox Update

dropbox-logoFinally! Dropbox has figured it out. If you have both a work account and a personal account for Dropbox, you had to choose for each device which one you wanted to be logged into. It was a huge pain to switch back and forth because all files would be deleted and have to be downloaded again every time you made the switch. If you are like me, and have a couple of work accounts you have to manage—and a personal account—you pretty much gave up. Or at least I did.

Well yesterday I got the best email ever saying I could now login to multiple account on the same device! I have not tried to see if I can merge more than two accounts – I doubt you will be able to – but two is WAY better than one!

Printing with Moo

Screen Shot 2014-02-02 at 5.09.50 PMBy far, Moo is my favorite printing company. Their quality is superb. Every time I hand someone a Moo card I get nothing but compliments on it. They look and feel amazing.

A unique feature is their printfinity. If one side of your card is the same, you can have an infinite number of different designs on the back. If you are a photographer, artist, real estate agent, designers, or anyone really – this is a great way to show off your portfolio or just have some fun.

Plus, I shouldn’t be saying this, but if you don’t have the money to spend on a custom design, their templates are amazing. I love everything about their style really. I wish I had a bunch of different businesses I could order cards for from them – or wait, I do and I have!

Our new DFD business cards are on their way. I will be sure to share them as soon as they arrive. Like our Facebook page to get the latest updates of our work.

Web Security Making Even Skeptics Like Me Think Twice

Twitter logo

Unknown Must Read: How I Lost My $50,000 Twitter Username

dbl_res_logoWhile we do our best to make our clients’ sites as secure as possible, I will be the first to admit that I do not follow all the security precautions for my own web passwords, usernames, and best practices that I should. I do use a secure password and have different passwords for important sites, but I am not meticulous about it. I have always figured that my information is everywhere and I just can’t fret about it or I will drive myself crazy. logo_paypal_106x29Reading a post by Naoki Hiroshima really made me think twice about things. His hacker brought up security issues that I had never even thought about for the security of my accounts. This is an extreme story, but it is a very interesting read: How I Lost My $50,000 Twitter Username

WordPress and Google Fonts

Google Web Fonts

Google Web FontsFonts can make or break a website design. Website fonts used to be so limiting. You could choose from the basic seven or so fonts and that was all. In the last year Google fonts has changed it all! Finally, we can include well designed fonts on all our websites. There are lots of plugins that integrate Google fonts. For more on fonts check out this Bluehost blog post and the font plugins that are out there. You can find Google’s Web Fonts here.
